Who Installs my Pet Door Design system?
While simple in concept, glass installation requires safety precautions and specialized
handling.
Click on Dealers for a list of installing dealers. No dealers in your area?
We can help you every step of the way. We ship Fed Ex and help you find and even work with your installer
to make sure you get a great result. Call us, go on line, or have your contractor call us. We provide an
easy to use information packet that will answer all his questions.
What happens to the original glass unit the conversion insert replaces?
We recommend you store it in a safe place. If you should ever sell your home to someone without a pet, or
no longer need a pet entry, the original glass unit can be quickly and easily re-installed.
Can the Pet Door Design patio pet door system fit in any sliding patio door?
The patio pet door conversion system will fit most double pane vinyl and aluminum doors manufactured in
the United States. Our conversion frame comes in three sizes designed to fit doors featuring over-all
glass thicknesses between 5/8th inch, 3/4 inch and 1 inch, common to most patio doors. Aluminum framed doors with
double pane glass also work well. Wood and fiberglass doors featuring over-all glass thicknesses between 1/2 inch
and 1 inch with replaceable stops also work well. Your installation expert can quickly identify any potential
problems prior to ordering.
Does Pet Door Design offer many double pane safety glass options like low-e and tint?
Clear tempered safety glass is standard. Low-e, bronze and gray tint are optional. Color matching existing glass can be difficult and is not guaranteed.
Does Pet Door Design offer a single pane conversion insert?
We currently offer conversion systems for patio doors with double pane glass only. Wood doors with thick stops can accept our conversion system. It can also replace an entire side-lite unit next to a swing door. Call for details.
Can the Pet Door Design system fit in either side of my patio door?
Most homes come with two panel sliding doors in 5’ or 6’ widths.
The most common type is the “inside slide” where the sliding panel slides inside the fixed outer, or exterior panel.
Inside sliding units require pet door installation in the sliding portion of the door as seen in our brochure.
“Outside” sliding models, where the sliding panel slides to the outside of the fixed interior panel are less common, and require the pet opening to be installed in the fixed, interior panel.
Can the Pet Door Design system fit in larger three and four panel sliding doors?
Yes. The same rules apply here as noted above when panels slide past each other.
For models with three panels, it’s common to have a fixed panel on one end that does not have a sliding panel crossing its path.
The system can be installed in this fixed panel if desired.
Will the Pet Door Design insert work in windows and swinging doors?
Our system is designed and built to replace common sized thermal pane glass.
Some restrictions apply, but we can build units for a variety of applications to include sliding windows, picture windows and swinging doors.
Tell us what you want to do.
If we can build it for you, we will.
What about delivery?

Can Pet Door Design install interior grids?
We currently offer a variety of glass options but do not offer interior grids because of potential alignment
issues. We will ship units without glass allowing for field installation and alignment. Call for details.
